The safest airlines in Russia and the world

The German research Bureau JACDEC, which investigates aviation accidents, presented its rating of the 60 safest airlines in the world, which the organization has published since 1973.

The leaders of the rating were 10 airlines that have been flying without accidents for more than 30 years.

The first place went to the Australian airline Qantas, whose aircraft after the Second world war did not have an emergency with human victims. Moreover, Qantas was also one of the oldest airlines in the world (founded in 1922).Even the emergency that occurred on November 4, 2010 with the Airbus A380 plane, which was forced to make an emergency landing in Singapore due to a fire in the engine, did not prevent Qantas from retaining the first place in the rating. None of the 459 people on Board were injured.

The second place went to the Finnish national carrier Finnair, founded in 1923. The last plane crash of this company occurred on November 8, 1963 – on the approach to the Aland Islands, the DC-3 liner crashed. In that crash, 22 passengers and crew were killed, two passengers and a flight attendant survived.

The third place is taken by the new Zealand national airline Air New Zealand, founded in 1940. In 2009, according to a study conducted by the Skytrax Association, the airline was ranked 8th in the list of the best airlines in the world.

The fourth place belongs to the Portuguese airline TAP Portugal, founded in 1946. The only accident of this carrier occurred in 1977, when a Boeing 727 during landing at Madeira airport in heavy rain slid off the runway and fell from a steep Bank with a height of 60 m.out of 164 people, 131 people were killed.

In fifth place is Cathay Pacific Airways from Hong Kong (1946). In the distant past, the company has had accidents, the last of which happened in 1972, when a bomb exploded in a suitcase on Board Convair 880, flying 700Z from Bangkok to Hong Kong. The plane crashed in Vietnam, killing all 81 people on Board.

The sixth is Japan’s All Nippon Airways, founded in 1954. The last incident with the aircraft of this airline happened in 1971, when the Boeing 727 JA8329, operating flight 58, collided with the f-86 sabre fighter. All 162 people on Board were killed.

After this incident, the planes did not crash again, but there were other incidents:

In June 1995, 2 terrorists hijacked an ANA plane after taking off from Tokyo. The plane landed in Hokkaido, and after storming the plane, the police arrested the terrorists. In 1999, a man hijacked an ANA plane and killed the pilot. He was neutralized by other members of the team, and no one else was injured.

On the seventh – the German airline Air Berlin. Interestingly, the original carrier with this name was founded in 1978 in the United States, but in 1992, the airline was bought by a group of German businessmen and it moved to Germany. During the entire existence of the carrier with Air Berlin aircraft, there were no accidents in which people were killed.

The eighth place was taken by the British airline Virgin Atlantic Airways, founded in 1984. There have been three incidents involving Virgin Atlantic aircraft over the course of its existence, all of which resulted only in an emergency landing, and there were no injuries.

On the ninth – one of the world’s largest airlines, based in the UAE – Emirates airline. There were no flight accidents with victims.

The tenth place belongs to the Russian airline Transaero, which was founded in 1991 and did not have any accidents in which passengers were killed or injured.
