We found at least three reasons to visit the Altai Mountains. And so …
Extreme entertainment and eco-tourism
Gorny Altai offers excellent conditions for various types of recreation-rafting, speleotourism, mountaineering, multi-day trekking tours (Hiking).
Rafting or water tourism, one of the most popular types of recreation in the Altai. It is clear that nature favors rivers, lakes, and rivers. There are more than 20 thousand of them in the Altai Mountains! The most famous lakes are Aya, Teletskoye, Manzherok, and rivers-Katun, Charysh, and Biya. As part of water activities and rafting, guests can enjoy river rafting and boat trips on lake Teletskoye, which is reputed to be the pearl of the Altai Mountains.
Rafting in the Altai Mountains
The variety of rivers in the Altai Mountains allows you to go on multi-day rafting tours of various levels of complexity (up to 5th grade).
The most common rafting on the Katun river and its right tributary-Chuya. Wonderful mountain landscapes, clean air and adrenaline are waiting for you.
Speleotourism is also developed in the Altai Mountains: there are more than four hundred caves in the territory of the region. You can choose an underground route of any complexity, from simple to extreme, combined with mountaineering and speleological diving.
For those who want to enjoy unspoilt nature, the region offers many Hiking routes. So horse routes allow you to explore remote areas of the Altai Mountains, access to which is almost impossible by road, for example, Karakol lakes.
Hunting and fishing
The Altai mountains have long attracted hunters and fishermen.
The duration of hunting tours is from one to ten days. Hunters live in tents, hunting lodges or campers, and travel on horseback or on foot. If you don’t have your own gun, you can rent it. As a trophy, you can get a maral, mountain goat, bear, boar, wolf, fur-bearing animal. By the way, the cost of such tours usually already includes the primary processing of trophies.
Fishing in the Altai Mountains
The most humane and modern type of hunting is, of course, photo Hunting – a type of bloodless hunting that is acceptable for fans of fauna. Quite an interesting type of recreation in view of the fact that rare species of animals are found on the territory of the Altai Mountains. Throughout the tour, the photo hunter is accompanied by an experienced huntsman who knows the habitats of rare species of animals. The duration of such tours is from 4 to 10 days.
The Katun river, Chulyshman, Biya, Teletskoye lake, as well as high-mountain lakes are famous for their fish riches. Taimen, grayling and burbot are common among valuable fish in the Altai Mountains. The best time for fishing is from August to October. At the end of June – early July you can catch grayling in the Katun river in its estuarine parts of tributaries. All equipment – fishing gear, boat, fishing rods, tents, can be rented.
Do you like to fish, but is it far to the Altai Mountains? Then choose one of the fishing bases in the Astrakhan region and the problem is solved. We recommend choosing the Peney base, which is conveniently located in a picturesque location in the Volga Delta.
In the Altai Mountains, nature has created excellent conditions for horse tourism. Most of the routes pass through picturesque places, where riders can see beautiful mountain and forest landscapes.
It is possible to understand how rich and diverse the Altai Mountains are only on horseback routes – dwarf birches are next to mighty cedars, and colorful flower glades with mountain snowfields are still accumulations of snow in places protected from the wind and sun.
Horse tours in the Altai Mountains
Horse hikes that take place in the Altai taiga are perfect for fans of sightseeing holidays with elements of extreme sports. Introductory horse tours are offered for novice riders. For experienced drivers, there are tracks with a higher level of difficulty.
