Tourist bus crashes: how to survive
According to statistics, the most frequent accidents involving tourist buses occur in southern countries such as Egypt, Tunisia, the Dominican Republic or Thailand.

The most common causes of such accidents – the driver fell asleep at the wheel or reckless recklessness. The latter is very typical for drivers in Egypt and Thailand, speeding and going to the “oncoming” for which is a common phenomenon, while such violations in these countries are not even always fined.
In addition, in many of these “southern countries”, very often faulty buses are released on flights: failed brakes or steering are not uncommon.
In Europe with passenger transport are much stricter here in compliance with the rules and the technical condition of buses is strictly controlled.
To increase the probability of your survival in a bus accident is often possible, just follow a few simple rules:
First, if the bus is equipped with seat belts, then be sure to fasten them, since even if a collision at a speed of 50 km/h per hour, your “flight” through the cabin may end in a fracture of the neck vertebrae, and there is a very high probability of injuring the passengers sitting in front of you.
If it is clear that the collision can not be avoided, then, sitting in the chair, lean forward, put your crossed hands on the chair in front and press your head to your hands (as we are taught in airplanes). Stretch your legs forward, but do not push them under the front seat, as then there is a risk of breaking them.
If you were standing during the collision, then when you fall, be sure to group and in any case do not cling to the handrails or adjacent seats, as this can lead to fractures or dislocations.
Many passengers try to take a seat in the front row, which offers a great view, as the driver. But in practice, these places are the most vulnerable in a head-on collision, and according to statistics, it is the passengers of these places who most often become victims in such accidents. It turns out a very high price for a good view. If the traffic is on the right-hand side (as in Russia), it is better to take the rightmost seats in the center of the cabin. When driving on the left (UK, Thailand) – on the contrary, the extreme left in the center of the cabin.
If the accident occurred, first of all try to soberly assess the situation and do not rush into the crowd, rushing to the “saving” exit. Since you can get into a crush and lose valuable time, for example, if the bus is on fire. Follow the instructions that can be found in almost every bus: “pull the cord, squeeze out the glass” and evacuate through the formed emergency exit.
If during the trip you notice that the driver is reckless and clearly exceeds the speed, pay attention to the guide or arrange a small scandal for both of them, if nothing else helps. After the last one, the driver will definitely have no desire to drive.
And finally, do not chase cheap excursions and tickets-use the services of only reputable travel agencies and bus companies.
